zài

· (located) at

Sentence order :

-Subject + 在 +  place + verb

他　　在　　港口　　工作。
           
-Subject +　ＴＩＭＥ　＋　在 +  place + verb

他　２００６　年　　在　　港口　　　　工作。
tā 　２００６　nián 　zài 　gǎng kǒu 　gōng zuò 。
In  2006 he was working at the port.

我们　　　　上个圣诞节　　　　　　　　　　在瑞士　　　　　滑雪。
wǒ men 　　shàng gè shèng dàn jiē 　　　　zài ruì shì 　　　huá xuě
We             last Christams      　　　　　   in Switzerland     did ski.

==> 在　here means "to be located at" and shows the location.

Exception 1:

When you combine  住在　(zhu + zai), it means "to live in" and its the only time 在　is after the verb. 

你住在哪儿　？
Where do you live ?

我爸爸　住在　法国的　一个　小村子。
wǒ bà bà 　zhù zài 　fǎ guó de 　yī gè 　xiǎo cūn zǐ 。
My dad      lives in      France of      a        small village.

Exception 2:

 在　as a verb :　
It can also be used as a verb which means "be located".

你家在哪里？
Where is your home (located) ?

你现在在哪里？
Where are you (located) now ?
